Texas Accessibility Standards

As Registered Accessibility Specialists (RAS) licensed through the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), we can:

  • Register projects with TDLR

  • Perform plan reviews for compliance with the TAS

  • Perform inspections for compliance with the TAS

Per the Texas Architectural Barriers Act, Article 9102:
Construction projects, in Texas, that have an estimated construction value of $50,000 or more are typically subject to the requirements of TDLR.

Americans with Disabilities act

Although many consultants claim to be “ADA experts,” Chuy worked as the City of Austin’s ADA Program Manager and managed the federal ADA requirements on a daily basis, serving on the Mayor's Committee for People with Disabilities.

We are familiar with the:

  • ADAAG

  • 2010 Standards for Accessible Design

  • Public Rights-of-Way Guidelines

  • Accessibility Guidelines for Outdoor Recreation Areas

Altura is considered a subject matter expert and is the one municipalities and business owners call on to ensure their projects' legal accessibility requirements are met.

Public Right-Of-Way

While working at the City of Austin’s Public Works Department, Chuy was responsible for the construction of approximately $14 million of sidewalks and curb ramps in the public ROW.  He knows a thing or two about curb ramps!

Often times, standard construction details fall short of complying with all necessary accessibility standards.  We have experience in developing creative solutions that meet or exceed all applicable accessibility requirements.  From new roads to street reconstructions and residential subdivisions, we have it covered.

ADA Transition Plans

While ADA Transition Plans have been a federal requirement since 1995, most government agencies have not developed the required plans.  Altura Solutions has experience assisting agencies, big and small, from data collection and transition plan writing to customized consulting.  Whether it’s a city, county, or state agency, we have a proven track record of producing transition plans that meet all of the ADA Title II requirements.  We have experience in developing transition plans for buildings, parks, trails, programs and services, or infrastructure in the public right-of-way. We have worked on Transition Plans for the City of Charlotte, North Carolina, BREC (East Baton Rouge) and Austin Parks.

Below is an example of the services that we provide:

  • GIS Data Collection and Report of Findings

  • ROW, Parks, Trails, Building/Facilities

  • Community Engagement

  • Cost Estimation

  • Development of Grievance Procedures and Best Practices

  • Analysis of Programs and Services

  • Drafting Transition Plan Document

Training & Seminars

Altura Solutions is a highly sought after firm for presentations and training seminars.

We strive to provide an informative and unique perspective on accessibility compliance. We are not going to read the standards to you, nor will we preach about the importance of the requirements. Ok, we do preach a little.  However, we promise that it will be entertaining and informative. We provide real world examples and solutions.

We always customize our presentations to our audience. We understand how engineers, architects, contractors, and government officials design, work, and think. We speak “their” languages. Give us a shout!
